Property worth lakhs gutted in plastic factory fire

In a devastating fire, property worth lakhs is feared to have been destroyed at a plastic factory on Thursday night. The fire, which is
thought to have started due to an electrical short circuit, was yet to be brought under control while going to print.

Fire brigade sources said that around 11 firefighting vehicles were pressed into service immediately after information of the fire was received. Combustible materials stored in the premises were not only causing the fire to spread fast but were also exploding in flames, making the firefighting job tougher for firemen.

MIDC police, which reached the site after an alert was raised, had to manage a massive mob that had assembled from Digdoh and neighbouring villages to see the fire. The fire also caused a major traffic snarl on the MIDC-Digdoh road, which also kept the cops busy. The police also assisted the firemen in dousing the flames which had engulfed the entire factory. Till late in the night, senior fire officials remained non-committal about the reason of the fire and the extent of the damage.
