It was a miraculous escape for a four-year-old girl as her father shielded her from the collapsing debris of a portion of the roof that
caved in at their Timki residence on Tuesday morning. Three members of Kuhikar family were lucky to survive with simple injuries.
Suresh, a shoe trader, was taking bath in the first floor bathroom when the incident took place. Startled by a loud noise, Suresh rushed out and saw the roof collapsing. Though horrified, he reacted promptly and picked up his daughter in his arms to ensure the collapsing concrete slabs do not hit her. Meanwhile, Suresh's wife Mamta too jumped out of the way of the falling concrete the very moment she realised what was happening. Mamta, who was cooking, was hurt in the accident but Suresh received more serious injuries.
It is learnt that Suresh's elder brother Ramesh was sleeping with his family members at the ground floor. Neighbours, who were busy in their morning chores, rushed to the help Suresh and his family. Injured Suresh and Mamta were rushed to Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital by the local residents but were discharged after preliminary treatment. Tehsil police and fire brigade also reached the place. According to a neighbour, Kuhikars were lucky as nobody was in the bed when the roof fell.
