Two passengers, one of them traveling with a fake identity card of Railway Board member, were detained by the ticket checking staff of
South East Central Railway (SECR) on October 4.
According to senior divisional commercial manager (SrDCM) Pradeep Kumar, two passengers were traveling in S-8 coach of 2410 Nizamuddin-Raigarh Express from Itarsi to Raipur. Both the passengers had unreserved ticket but occupied berth numbers 33 and 34 in the reserved compartment.
During routine checking between Bhandara and Gondia, travelling ticket examiner (TTE) A Ghosh found that the two passengers did not have valid tickets. Ghosh asked them to pay fine. Irked by it, one of the passengers identified himself as R L Sharma and said he was a retired CRPF official. Sharma also showed a first class pass whose validity had expired on July 17, 2008.
When Ghosh asked Sharma to pay fine, he showed a fake identity card mentioning he was advisory member of the Railway Board. When Ghosh did not relent, the two abused and threatened him with dire consequences.
Ghosh contacted higher officials in Nagpur and also reported the matter at Dongargarh station. When the train reached Raipur, Sharma and his colleague were handed over to the Railway Protection Force (RPF). The matter is being investigated and statements are being recorded.
