The Tehsil police on Thursday busted a fake gold racket operated by three youths. The accused have been identified as Babulal Laxman Solanki (24), Raju Ratanlal Solanki (37), both hailing from Ujjain, and Prakash Singh Gangaram Bagel (25), hailing from Chitrakoot.
The three of them came to a shop at Sarafa bazaar on Thursday and tried to sell 3.5kg of polished yellow metal, which they claimed was gold. They said that they had found the gold while digging for a building, and that it was worth Rs 6 lakh. The three said that they were ready to sell the ornaments for half that price, since they were scared of the police and didn't want to get caught. An alert businessman informed the police, who were on election duty in the area, and the trio was caught at around 1pm.
Interestingly, three other people had been detained yesterday for a similar crime, but had been released after interrogation, despite the suspicion that they were part of a syndicate. Sub inspector Maruti Kachore confirmed, "The people arrested yesterday were released after interrogation. The real culprits have been nabbed today.
