After teachers holding demonstrations demanding pay as per the recommendations of Sixth Pay Commission, it's now the turn of non-teaching
employees to hit the streets. Over 500 non-teaching staff under Nagpur University Non-teaching Employees' Organisation (NUNTEO) stormed the joint-director of higher education office to raise demands, including sixth pay commission pay. Chairman of the organisation Gurudas Korde urged the members to raise the demand strongly and stay united. The morcha started from the Nagpur University's administrative office opposite Maharajbagh and ended at joint-director's office.
The activists stated that state minister of higher and technical education Rajesh Tope was not supporting the demand. Earlier, discussions with the minister were also a failure. It was stated by the government that grievances such as NET/SET and pension plans among others will be resolved after the cabinet meeting. However, the assurances have not been fulfilled. Citing step-motherly treatment from the government, the members stated that their counterparts in other states and in central universities had already received the Sixth Pay Commission pay-scales.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra Federation of University and College Teacher's Organization (MFUCTO) has commenced an indefinite cease-work since July 22. Nagpur University Teachers Association has also threatened to intensify its ongoing agitation. On August 4, it has organised rally at 12 noon from Laxminarayan Institute of Technology that will end at Nagpur University. The teachers will hand over a memorandum of demands to the vice-chancellor.
