July 12 (IANS) Three people including a National Institute of Technology (NIT) girl student and her boy friend have been arrested for their involvement in the looting of Rs.2 million in the Chhattisgarh capital Tuesday, police said Sunday.
"We have cracked the Rs.2 million Raipur loot case with the arrest of three people including the kingpin Khushbu, a fifth semester student of NIT and her boy friend Zia-ul-Asim, a small trader," Raipur Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar told reporters here.
He said that a youth Ravi Yadu, who had thrown acid on a private construction company staffer Deepak Sahu and fled with his bag containing Rs.2 million and was arrested late Saturday in Maharashtra's Nagpur city by a Chhattisgarh police team, revealed that he had acted on instructions of the girl and her boy friend.
Sahu had sustained 80 percent burn injuries when Ravi hurled acid on him and is battling for life at a government hospital here.
Police said that Ravi had handed over all the looted money to Khushbu and her boy friend Zia within an hour after the incident and Zia had given him Rs.250,000 to leave the state immediately.
Police have recovered about Rs.1.85 million from Khushbu while the couple had spent the rest of the amount on shopping.
