SN Pathan issued orders to all Nagpur University employees

The Nagpur University seems to have finally decided to take cognisance of the slew of complaints regarding ‘illegal activities’ that
continue to thrive on its main administrative premises after 6 pm.

The change in stance was visible from the fact that vice chancellor SN Pathan issued orders to all Nagpur University employees to leave the premises after their official duty at 6 pm. Only in exceptional circumstances like examination-related work, the employees will be allowed to continue to wait till late night. He also warned that strict action would be initiated if any of the staffers were found loitering inside the premises after their official working hours.

A senior official told TOI that many underhand dealings like granting permission for opening of new colleges, settling cases like unfair means and tampering with important documents like that happened in the infamous roster scam among others, are done during late hours and many senior officials are believed to be involved.

Though Pathan refused to comment on the issue, he directed the query to registrar Subhash Belsare who confirmed the development. “The directives were issued by VC in a meeting of university officers convened recently at convocation hall. The orders were basically given to save power, water and other precious resources. The university has categorically told all the employees that they would not be getting any overtime, except for genuine work for staying late,” he said.

Belsare added that eight hours of normal work from 10 am to 6 pm are more than enough and all employees should make it a regular practice so that a sense discipline should be instilled in them.

The registrar however refused to comment on the statement that orders were issued to stop illegal activities going on the university premises and they had received many complaints.

An official, on condition anonymity, informed that many employees opposed the VC’s orders as it would amount to no extra income from underhand dealings after office hours.
