Even as swine flu statistics push Nagpur gradually up the national graph, comes the shocker that a batch of seven samples sent to the
Pune-based National Institute of Virology in Pune is missing. This includes the samples of the two who died on Wednesday evening at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).
As is the practice, the samples were sent by courier on an Indigo flight on Tuesday. Medical sources in Nagpur and Pune confirmed that until Thursday evening the box has not been traced.
The mystery came to light when the GMCH dean Dr Deepti Dongaonkar called up the NIV to enquire about the reports of Moti Pajdhare and Archana Bhiwapure who died on Wednesday. For two days in a row now, the GMCH has not received any report from Pune. Quite often the NIV authorities inform the GMCH about positive cases over phone.
