Expecting seven to 10 lakh people at Chaityabhoomi, the BMC is doing all it can to ensure that the 53rd death anniversary of Babasaheb
Ambedkar goes smoothly. Besides basic facilities en route to Shivaji Park, it has made arrangements in and around the maidan. It has set up canopied sitting areas in a 20,800-square metre area at the maidan. Around 160 mobile toilets have been set up to supplement the 16 in the park, besides three at Dadar Club and 100 at Dadar beach. Several are for women.
Twice a day we fog the area to keep away mosquitoes and spray disinfectants to combat the spread of diseases, said a civic official.
The Shivaji Park area will have 24-hour water supply on Wednesday so that none of the 300-odd taps in the maidan goes dry. Around 2,000 volunteers will help manage the crowd. Two control rooms have been set up to monitor the area. Weve spent over Rs 60 lakh and deployed more than 350 labourers. Well have 13 medical teams and four fire tenders on the ready, said deputy municipal commissioner Sudhir Naik.
