NAGPUR :- DNA nails bro-in-law for raping minor

DNA fingerprinting has revealed that a minor girl, who was pregnant, had been raped by not one but two of her close relatives. The girl’s

uncle had been arrested for raping her after she told the police that she had physical relations with him. However, DNA fingerprinting revealed that the father of her unborn child was some other man.

The Hudkeshwar police have now arrested the girl’s brother-in-law too for raping her. Sunita (name changed) had been admitted to a government orphanage after losing her parents. However, she had been abused by relatives from time to time.

The exploitation had remained under wraps until she became pregnant. The government home authorities, who had permitted Sunita to visit her kin, were baffled to discover the girl was expecting, some time after she returned to the home.

Upon questioning, Sunita revealed that her maternal uncle was responsible for the pregnancy. Acting upon a complaint by the government home authorities, Hudkeshwar police had arrested the uncle in August on the grounds of having a sexual relationship with a minor that led to her pregnancy. Police said that the culprit had brought Sunita out of the home claiming that her presence was needed at a relative’s marriage ceremony. While his wife was busy elsewhere, he had entered into a physical relationship with the girl by promising her a secured life in future and all possible help to set up a family. However, the police were sent into a tizzy after the DNA test results came back.

The test had been conducted on the samples collected from Sunita, her aborted foetus and her uncle, who was already behind bars. The results said that the foetus had been conceived with a man other than the jailed uncle. On the ground of this DNA test result, the uncle had been released on bail. However, a new probe had been launched by the police to search for the man who fathered Sunita’s child. It took the police more than a couple of months before the truth came to fore. Hudkeshwar police led by senior inspector Prakash Bele, assistant police inspector Vijay Akot and others took help of some devious methods to zero down upon the other rapist. The cops, who had been questioning Sunita, were not able to get her to tell the truth.

So, the cops then urged Sunita to speak to her brother on a cop’s cellphone. The police had rigged a system on the phone that ensured the complete conversation was recorded. The cops got a hint from the conversation that the girl’s brother-in-law was also having sexual relations with her. On further questioning and investigations, the police learnt that Sunita had been exploited a number of times by her brother-in-law too. However, Sunita had opted to keep this to herself and implicate only her uncle, since she wanted to protect her elder sister’s family. The brother-in-law, Lalit Bhangade, a farmer by profession at Jalgaon, has now been arrested by the cops.
