Management Guru Arindum Chaudhuri took a dig at the typical IITian who realises that engineering is just not his passion and goes for an
MBA degree
or something else only after completing the entire course at this prestigious institution. As 14,000 persons turned up at the Kasturchand Park to listen to this motivational speaker, Chaudhuri said that this is only brazen waste of the tax-payers' money as government spends Rs 25 lakh on subsidising a student's education at the IIT. "He could have been an MBA even without getting into the IIT," said Chaudhuri. He was speaking at an event organised by Hindi daily Dainik Bhaskar.
As Chaudhuri, who spoke in Hindi with poor grammar and splatter of English, urged the youth to follow their passion rather than tread the beaten path. He said youngsters are forced by their parents to follow a few selected careers like engineering at the IIT, but a majority of them have a tendency to do something else. He hinted that If kids are allowed to follow their passion, there may be lesser cases of IITians going for an MBA degree after wasting tax-payers' money.
Citing the Gita and instances of the Mahabharata, he gave tips on man management, using the age old formula of sam dam, dand bhed. He said different kind of persons have to be dealt with in different ways such as Sam (providing an equal chance), dam (allurement), dand (deterrence) and bhed (dividing responsibility).
Quoting a research he said it was only a handful out of 1,500 persons who choose to do what they like, become millionaires rather than those who only aim to make money. Calling for a change in the education system, he suggested that schools should strive on changing a student's life rather than just completing the syllabus.
"One should also develop a sense of patriotism as it would not only lead to his but also the entire country's progress," said Chaudhuri.
