The extended term of the present mayor Maya Iwnate and deputy mayor Kishore Kumeria has already ended on November 30. Nomination forms will be accepted on December 19 at the municipal secretary's office from 10am to 5pm, while scrutiny of the same will be conducted on the day of election by the presiding officer.
Candidates would be able to withdraw nominations on the day of election also. With the mayor's post reserved for women candidates from open category, the names of former mayor Kalpana Pande, who is close to BJP state president Nitin Gadkari, and Archana Dehankar, who represents Gandhisagar ward of the city, are doing rounds as front-runners for the prestigious post. Suresh Talvekar, who represents Garib Nawaz Nagar ward, is considered as a strong contender for deputy mayor's post.
