Nearly 3 lakh new voters added to list
A few months ago, when the district collectorate had begun its special drive to include the names of as many people as possible into the
voter list before the state assembly elections, it had aimed at a specific number.
That specific goal is probably on the road to being achieved, with nearly 3 lakh new voters registering during the one and a half month long drive. Sources in the district collectorate say that 2,84,470 new voters have been registered in the drive, and that, including the number of people whose name has been deleted form the voter list, there has been an actual increase of about 8.48 % from the previous number, or a numerical increase of 2,74,771voters.
However, the exact time when these new voters, as well as many old ones, will get their election photo identity cards (EPICs) is another matter. As of now, many of those voters, who had registered earlier, have not yet received their EPICs, even though teachers from various schools have been called upon to go from house to house in order to deliver them.
Meanwhile, sources in the collectorate confirm that the newly registered people will probably not receive their new EPICs before at least another month. “As of now, only their names are being fed into the voter list, which will be published on August 27. However, a lot still remains to be done. This includes uploading photographs of new voters onto the list, creating their cards in proper format and then printing them,” they added.
