Five more suspected cases in city

Even as the number of suspected swine flu cases in city continues to increase, the National Institute of

Virology (NIV), Pune, where
all blood and swab samples must be sent for testing is showing signs of cracking under
pressure. Till now, it was giving results on the samples from city within 24 hours but on Friday the institute is learnt to have told the dean GMCH that reporting results will take more time.

This has created difficulties for Government Medical College and Hospital. So far, every suspected case was being discharged within 24 hours on testing negative and fresh cases accommodated in the specially created isolation facility of ten beds.

But now hospital will have to keep patients longer until the results arrive. On Friday evening, the GMCH authorities had begun making arrangements for one more eight bedded ward as the number of patients reached eight. Five more suspected cases were admitted in the hospital on Friday. This has taken the total number of suspected cases from all over the region to thirteen.
