NAGPUR: The controversy over poor results of bachelor of computer application (BCA) and bachelor of commerce with computer applications (BCCA)
courses of Nagpur University has finally landed in the Nagpur bench of Bombay high court.
A division bench issued show cause notices to the respondents including vice chancellor SN Pathan, registrar Subhash Belsare and controller of examinations Debendranath Mishra. They were asked to file a reply in a week.
According to petitioners Sneha Dubey and 14 others, the poor results were primarily due to undervaluation by unqualified teachers during winter examinations last year. The results of the examination were declared on January 5. TOI was tracking this issue since the controversy erupted.
As per the aggrieved students, the BCA results was nothing less than a shocker as most of them failed to clear the exam for second consecutive term. The university has 109 colleges offering this course and many of them charged a hefty donation up to Rs 50,000 from students, as against regular fees of Rs 8,000 (Rs 4,500 as tuition fees and Rs 3,500 for practicals).
According to them, the entire course is tough considering the fact that it has three engineering subjects and absence of qualified teachers is making the matters worse. There are only 18 qualified teachers for teaching the subject of computers in the university. Such colleges have become sponsored coaching classes, the students said, demanding strict action including disaffiliation of the colleges. The students demanded rechecking of answer-sheets of all BCA and BCCA subjects from the experts and a committee to be formed for keeping a tab on such malpractices.
