| Named after the great Engineer, Statesman & Visionary of modern India, Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, Nagpur (VNIT) was established in 1960 as a joint venture of Government of India and Government of Maharashtra. The college has made steady progress during the past four decades of its existence. Established as a pace setting Institute of Technical Education imparting undergraduate education, it has played a leading role in guiding other engineering colleges in Maharashtra. In this mission today it has progressed to offering several M. Tech. Programmes and facilities for Ph.D. The college also undertakes R & D activities and offers testing, consultancy and other extension services including continuing education to the industry through the Industry Institute Interaction Cell and the placement of the students through the Department of Training & Placement. In keeping with the liberalised industrial scenario and economic policies of the Govt. of India, the Planning Commission and the Ministry of Human Resources, Govt. of India have taken bold & pro-active steps to develop Regional Engineering Colleges now National Institute of Technologies as Centers of Excellence. These developments have provided the necessary resources to VNIT to deal with both opportunities and challenges.
