The general elections
are over in the country, but the assembly elections in the state are looming ahead. District administration has
already begun the exercise to distribute more Electoral Photo Identity Cards (EPICs) to those who do not have them yet.
Additional district collector Dheeraj Kumar told TOI on Sunday, “There is currently only 60% coverage of EPICs in the district. From Monday, we will begin issuing cards again and aim to bring up its coverage to 80% by the time assembly elections take place.”
New voter registration and distribution of EPICs had been stopped before the general elections. From Monday, the processing of EPICs as well as registration of new voters will begin at the tehsil office as well as with the Election Registration Officers (EROs) across the city.
This is expected to continue until the assembly elections. Efforts are being made to make the process smoother. If a person wants to register his or her name in the voter list, he or she needs to fill Form 6 and submit it to the EROs. If the person’s name already exists in the voters’ list, then he or she needs to fill up Form 001B to apply for an EPIC.
