The murky goings on over the illegal continuation in office by Head of Pali and Prakrit department of Nagpur University L G Meshram took
a new turn with the vice-chancellor asking P D Nimsarkar, head, department of languages to take over Meshram's charge. Earlier, Ambedkar Thought department HoD Pradeep Aglave was given the charge.
The decision was taken in a meeting chaired by vice-chancellor S N Pathan and attended by Board of College and University Development (BCUD) Arvind Chaudhari, registrar Subhash Belsare, and deputy registrar (Development) Puran Meshram. Both Meshram and Aglave were not invited for the meeting. Despite repeated attempts VC was not available for comments.
Meshram was unlawfully occupying his post for nearly two months after his retirment on February 28. He is also believed to be involved in illegal financial transactions by holding a national conference and collecting scholarship money of students
. After TOI reported the matter the vice-chancellor had issued a letter to Meshram to stating he can't be given extension and he should immediately leave the post.
Nimsarkar confirmed to TOI that he had been given the additional charge of Pali and Prakrit department. He said it would be convenient for him as both departments were located in university's main library building.
Aglave told TOI that he was not disappointed with the VC's decision as he was too busy with his existing work. He said "it was up to the university and its bosses to answer" the charge was taken away from him. Nonetheless, the university circles were shocked by the sudden twist in the episode and blamed Pathan for the mess.
Many members from university's various bodies like management council and senate said that Meshram had finally succeeded in not handing over charge to Aglave who was the right person for the job and possessed an unblemished character.
"If VC wanted to give charge to Nimsarkar, he should have done it earlier. Why Aglave was told and then it was withdrawn from him. Why does he want to remain in controversies," they asked.
