NAGPUR: Winter this year seems to be packing in a punch that had all but gone over the last couple of years. The regional meteorological office
(RMO) has officially termed the present conditions as a cold wave in eastern Vidarbha.
The city too shivered as minimum temperature dipped to single digit readings once again on Tuesday when it was recorded at 9.5 degrees celsius. The minimum temperature was already threatening to breach the ten-degree mark since Sunday, when it hovered at 10.4 degrees celsius.
It continued at same level on Monday. The cold regained its bite after the night temperatures rose briefly during the wet spell. With sky clearing, the temperatures fell again. The common belief that the weather always warms up after Sankrant is going out of the window.
The RMO has issued a warning on Tuesday that the night temperatures in some parts of eastern Vidarbha, including Nagpur, may fall to as much as four to six degrees below normal. The general prediction for the next two days is that the maximum temperature will stay around 29 degrees while the minimum will hover around the 9 degree mark.
RMO sources informed that the fall in temperature had taken place due to clear skies and cold northerly winds blowing into the region. They could not say how long these conditions would last.
