The TMC has plans to send its firemen for an advanced training session at Nagpur. The civic body, following the Tarangan tragedy, has
sanctioned a budget of Rs 5 lakh for the fire department for the training course.
The TMC's fire department is short staffed. It also has old, outdated and limited equipment, coupled with insufficient funding, and vehicles and insufficient funding the fire department hit to hardest. The poor condition of fire department was exposed a month back when the department lost six firemen.
To change the current scenario and to make firemen more physically fit, the fire department is going to participate at the national-level advance training course at Nagpur. For this course, the fire department has considered its staff for the course.
"Our firemen will receive this advance training as well. We would send our senior officers earlier, but this time we are sending 15 firemen for training," informed Vijay Vaidya chief fire officer.
