The security at Nagpur Central Jail came into question after a life convict Pramod Nagrale attacked three fellow inmates with a sharp
weapon on Saturday morning. Sushil Bahuria, also serving life imprisonment for murder, was heading to the washroom in the barracks when he was attacked by Nagrale. Two others were also hurt when they intervened.
Jail authorities said Nagrale, convicted for murder, had a heated exchange of words with Bahuria over monetary affairs some time ago. Nagrale had reportedly asked Bahuria to hand over coupons worth Rs 200 that former inmate Rahul Vaidya, who is now out of jail, had given him before leaving. Bahuria, however, turned down the demand outright. The matter ended in a heated verbal exchange.
Nagrale, planning to avenge the slight, attached blade to a spoon and attacked Bahuria, inflicting serious injuries on his neck and hands on Saturday. Kailash Prajapati, who was convicted along with Bahuria for a murder in Ballarshah, was also injured when he intervened. Another inmate Vinayak Choudhary too received serious injuries when he stepped in to stop the fight. An offence of attempt to murder and assault against Nagrale was registered at Dhantoli police station.
