BUSINESS NEWS:-Hyundai Motor sales up 14% in '09

CHENNAI: Hyundai Motor India reported a 14.4% rise in total car sales at 5,59,880 units in 2009 (Jan-Dec) against 4,89,343 units in 2008.
Domestic sales increased by 18.1% at 289,863 units in 2009 against 245,397 in 2008 while overseas sales accounted for 270,017 units (243,946 units), up by 10.7%.

HMIL’s total sales in December, 2009 stood at 47,217 units against 38,502 units in December, 2008 registering 22.6% cumulative growth.

The domestic sales growth accounted for 22,252 units against 15,602 units in December, 2008. Arvind Saxena director (marketing and sales) HMIL said, with the overall economic scenario improving the Indian automotive market seems to have stabilised.

“The stimulus package certainly helped the automotive industry and we hope the government will continue with this at least for some more time. For HMIL particularly introduction of new products like the i20 helped as in the last few months they have become an important contributor to our sales.”
